The line is operated by the Trolleybus Division of Beijing Public Transport Group. It opened on 31 July 2008, the same day as Beijing BRT Line 2. From Andingmen in Dongcheng District, it follows Andingmen Outer Street, Anding Road, Anli Road, Litang Road and Beiqing Road, passing the Beiyuan residential area and Tiantongyuan before reaching the west side of Hongfuyuan in Changping District. It is 22.95 km long, has 22 stops, and operates from 05:00 to 23:00 at both ends.[^wiki-zh] ## Busway and boarding Between Yangshan Bridge on the North Fifth Ring Road and Lishuiqiao, the line uses a central dedicated bus lane; elsewhere it shares the road with general traffic. The line originally had no onboard card readers and used fare payment at stations. From 21 September 2025, six pairs of stops between Lishuiqiao South and Tiantongyuan subway station temporarily moved to roadside regular bus platforms during the Anli Road grade-separation improvement project. Onboard fare collection was introduced across the route at the same time: passengers board through the middle doors and pay by card or QR code, then exit through the front or rear doors.[^wiki-zh] A notice from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport and Beijing Traffic Management Bureau set the BRT2 and BRT3 bus lanes' operating hours to 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–19:00 on weekdays, effective 28 April 2026.[^official] ## Vehicle history When the line opened, it used articulated JNP6180G-1 buses made by Youngman. From 15 January 2015, BRT3 and its former branch service progressively adopted Youngman BJD-WG180N (JNP6183BEV) articulated dual-source trolleybuses. The main vehicle types later included that model and Foton BJD-WG180FB (BJ6180EVCAT-1) articulated trolleybuses.[^wiki-zh] ## Branch and short-turn services (historical) The line previously had a branch and a short-turn service; both later received new route numbers and left the BRT system.[^wiki-zh] The branch ran from Andingmen to Tiantong Beiyuan and was later renumbered 301. After renumbering, it left the BRT busway and changed to onboard fare collection; it remains operated by the Trolleybus Division of Beijing Public Transport Group. The short-turn service ran from Andingmen to Wendu Shuicheng, covering 21.85 km and sharing stops with the main line between Andingmen and Wangfu Wenxin Apartment. On 21 September 2025, its southern terminus moved from Andingmen to Lishuiqiao North during the Anli Road improvement project, and it was renumbered 426.
