It is 18.5 kilometres long and serves 27 stations. The line runs from Langwasser Süd in the south-east of Nuremberg via the city centre and Plärrer to Fürth Hardhöhe in the north-west. The first section between Langwasser Süd and Aufseßplatz was opened on 1 March 1972; the last extension to Fürth Hardhöhe followed on 8 December 2007.
