Wikidata gives his Chinese label as 陈应 (traditional form 陳應) and his English label as Chen Ying, and describes him as a subordinate of Zhao Fan, set in the Han dynasty, with the occupation of military officer. On Chinese Wikipedia his article name redirects to the chapter 52 section of the list of fictional Three Kingdoms characters, and the title stays as the character's name.[^wikidata][^zhwiki] ## In the novel The list describes him as a colonel in command of troops under Zhao Fan; he and Bao Long were originally hunters from the Lingshan area of Guiyang and fought with steel forks. When Zhao Yun attacked Guiyang, Zhao Fan wanted to surrender, but Chen Ying urged him to resist and led three thousand men to challenge Zhao Yun, only to be captured in the first exchange. After Zhao Fan surrendered he offered his widowed sister-in-law, Lady Fan, to Zhao Yun as a wife; Zhao Yun was furious and beat him. Zhao Fan bore a grudge and conspired with Chen Ying and Bao Long, who pretended to surrender to Zhao Yun and claimed that Zhao Fan was setting a beauty trap, while really meaning to assassinate him. Zhao Yun saw through the plan, got the two drunk and killed them, and then captured Zhao Fan.[^zhwiki] ## Basic facts - Name: Chen Ying[^wikidata] - Role: fictional character of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, officer under Zhao Fan, colonel of troops[^wikidata][^zhwiki] - Occupation recorded on this entry: military officer[^wikidata] - Setting: Han dynasty[^wikidata] - Appears in: [[work_cn_q70806|Romance of the Three Kingdoms]] /people/chen-ying-q1133043.html en zh en Character in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms true literary character tag-fictional-character fictional-character 文学人物 古典名著中的虚构或文学化人物。 1027 tag-classics classics 古典名著 中国古代经典著作与小说。 1077 relation_cnworks_depicts_q70806_q1133043 work_cn_q70806 depicts person_cn_q1133043 work_cn_q70806 wikidata work_cn_q70806 The Romance of the Three Kingdoms /en/works/romance-three-kingdoms-q70806.html true work_cn_q70806 The Romance of the Three Kingdoms /en/works/romance-three-kingdoms-q70806.html work 3 2026-10-25T00:00:00+08:00 当前版本 true /en/people/chen-ying-q1133043/at/3.html en zh en is_fictional yes person_category literary character disambiguation Character in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms 1 depicts true 1 1
