<body>**Ding Yuan** was an official and military leader in the late Eastern Han dynasty. He served as Inspector of Bing Province and later as Commandant of the Capital.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Life&#xA;&#xA;Ding Yuan began his career as a county clerk. In 188, he succeeded as Inspector of Bing Province and later held the posts of Cavalry Commandant and Wumeng Commandant, stationing troops in Henei. In 189, after Emperor Ling&#39;s death, he entered Luoyang with troops at the summons of He Jin, the Grand General, and was later appointed Commandant of the Capital. After He Jin was killed and Dong Zhuo took control of the court, Lü Bu killed Ding Yuan at Dong Zhuo&#39;s inducement, and Dong Zhuo absorbed Ding Yuan&#39;s troops.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Later portrayals&#xA;&#xA;The same-named character in *Romance of the Three Kingdoms* is [[person_cn_q123596928|Ding Yuan (fictional character)]].</body>
