# Donghua Dijun

Donghua Dijun is a Taoist deity. Quanzhen Daoism ranks him among the Four Emperors and Two Empresses and first of the Five Patriarchs. The cited article says his personal name was originally unknown.

Donghua Dijun is a Taoist deity. Wikidata uses this title. Its aliases only lengthen the same title, and they do not supply a separate personal name. The cited Chinese Wikipedia says his personal name was originally unknown, so the title stays Donghua Dijun.[^wikidata][^zhwiki]

## The cult

The page says the cult took shape around the Tang dynasty. The Quanzhen school of the Jin dynasty honored him as one of the Four Emperors and Two Empresses and as the first of the Five Patriarchs. Legend places his former home on Kunyu Mountain in Wendeng, Ninghai, Shandong, now Wendeng in Shandong province. He is paired with Xihua Jinmu, the Queen Mother of the West.[^zhwiki]

## Later identifications

The same page says that from the Yuan dynasty some Daoists identified him with the Eastern King, or said he was incarnated as Wang Xuanfu. One inner-alchemy lineage instead associated him with Lü Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals. These are later identifications. The citations do not settle on one of them as his only personal name.[^zhwiki]
