<body>Fu Wan was an in-law of the imperial house at the end of the Eastern Han and the father of Empress Fu Shou, wife of Emperor Xian. Both Wikidata and the Chinese Wikipedia article are titled Fu Wan, so the heading stays the personal name. The structured record gives 150 as his birth year and 209 as his death year, while the Chinese Wikipedia article says only the 2nd century for his birth, and places him in the Eastern Han.[^wikidata][^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Origins and offices&#xA;&#xA;The article says he was a man of Dongwu in Langye, a descendant of the Western Han classicist Fu Sheng and a sixth-generation grandson of the Minister of the Masses Fu Zhan. His courtesy name is not known. The Fu family was a house of classical scholarship. He was deep and composed, with a large-minded character. He inherited the title Marquis of Buqi, married Princess Yang&#39;an, Liu Hua, a daughter of Emperor Huan, and served as palace attendant. In the second year of Xingping (195), his daughter Fu Shou, born to Fan Ying, was made empress by Emperor Xian, and he became commandant of the capital guards. In the first year of Jian&#39;an (196), when Cao Cao received the emperor, he was made general who assists the state, with ceremonial rank equal to the Three Excellencies.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## After Cao Cao took control&#xA;&#xA;Once the emperor had moved to Xu, Cao Cao made himself minister of works and held the government in his hands. Fu Wan returned his seals and became palace counsellor, and later commandant of the Tunji cavalry. In the fifth year of Jian&#39;an (200), Dong Cheng and others failed in a plot to kill Cao Cao and were executed. Empress Fu wrote to her father asking him to plot Cao Cao&#39;s death, but Fu Wan did not dare. According to the Spring and Autumn of Emperor Xian, he also showed the letter to his wife&#39;s younger brother Fan Pu, who sealed it and told Cao Cao.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Death and aftermath&#xA;&#xA;Fu Wan died in the fourteenth year of Jian&#39;an (209), and his son Fu Dian inherited the marquisate. In the nineteenth year (214) the old scheme came to light. The empress was deposed and killed, over a hundred of her clan were killed, and her mother Fan Ying and eighteen others were exiled to Zhuo commandery. The article adds that his son Fu De, brother of the empress, had supported his sister the empress on the flight from Chang&#39;an to Luoyang, carrying ten bolts of silk in one hand, and that he also died in this affair.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## In the novel&#xA;&#xA;In chapter 66 of Luo Guanzhong&#39;s Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the empress, angered by Cao Cao&#39;s arrogance, writes to Fu Wan through Mu Shun and plans to ally with Sun Quan and Liu Bei as outside support to remove Cao Cao. Cao Cao later finds Fu Wan&#39;s reply in Mu Shun&#39;s hair and has Hua Xin and Xi Lü kill the empress, Fu Wan and the whole clan. This is the novel&#39;s adaptation, and it differs from the biographical account above.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Basic facts&#xA;&#xA;- Dates recorded on this entry: 150 to 209 (birth year from the structured record)[^wikidata]&#xA;- Occupation recorded on this entry: politician (Eastern Han)[^wikidata]&#xA;- Portrayal: [[person_cn_q123908875|Fu Wan]] (a character in Romance of the Three Kingdoms)</body>
