Both Wikidata and the Chinese Wikipedia article are titled Lady You, and Wikidata also lists forms of address such as Eldest Sister You, Zhen's Sister-in-law and Zhen's Wife. There is only a surname and the suffix for a married woman, and no personal name, so the heading stays Lady You. The story is set in the dynasty of the novel, and she is recorded as female.[^wikidata][^zhwiki] ## Position and family According to the Chinese Wikipedia article, she is Jia Zhen's wife and the legal mother of Jia Rong. Her stepmother is the elder woman You, and her two half-sisters are You Erjie and You Sanjie. She is the mistress who runs the Ningguo house, and her character is described as a gourd with its mouth sawn off, that is, one who keeps silent.[^zhwiki] ## In the story The article says that when her daughter-in-law Qin Keqing died, she was ill and could not manage the household, so Jia Zhen asked Wang Xifeng of the Rong house to take over. She tried hard to stop the marriage of You Erjie, but did not succeed. Later, when Wang Xifeng found that Jia Lian had secretly married You Erjie, she made a scene in the Ningguo house, and Lady You, at a loss, could only let her go on.[^zhwiki] ## Basic facts - Description: character in Dream of the Red Chamber, wife of Jia Zhen[^wikidata] - Other forms of address: Eldest Sister You, Zhen's Sister-in-law, Zhen's Wife[^wikidata] - Setting recorded on this entry: the dynasty of the novel[^wikidata] - Appears in: [[work_cn_q8265|Dream of the Red Chamber]][^zhwiki] /people/lady-you.html en zh en Character in Dream of the Red Chamber true literary character relation_cnworks_depicts_q8265_q11039789 work_cn_q8265 depicts person_cn_q11039789 work_cn_q8265 wikidata Related works work_cn_q8265 Dream of the Red Chamber /en/works/dream-red-chamber.html true depicts Related works relation_cnworks_depicts_q8265_q11039789 work_cn_q8265 depicts person_cn_q11039789 work_cn_q8265 wikidata Related works work_cn_q8265 Dream of the Red Chamber /en/works/dream-red-chamber.html true en zh en is_fictional Fictional yes person_category Person category literary character disambiguation Disambiguation Character in Dream of the Red Chamber 1 50 1 1 1
