<body>Lei Tong was a general under Liu Bei at the end of the Eastern Han. Wikidata&#39;s Chinese label is written 雷銅, or 雷铜 in simplified characters, and the Chinese Wikipedia article carries the same title, so the heading stays as it is. Wikidata records his death in 218 and his state as Eastern Han, and gives his birth only as a century-level date around 150, which this entry does not use.[^wikidata][^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## The contest for Hanzhong and his death&#xA;&#xA;Chinese Wikipedia says that when Liu Bei wanted to contend with Cao Cao for Hanzhong, he asked Zhou Qun for advice. Zhou Qun answered that even if he won the land he would not win the hearts of the people, that sending a detached force would surely go badly, and that he should be careful. Zhang Yu of Shu commandery, a military assistant of the province, also urged him not to fight for Hanzhong. Liu Bei did not listen, and sure enough took the land without winning the people&#39;s hearts. The generals Wu Lan, Lei Tong and others he sent into Wudu were all killed in battle.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;The article gives the details. In 217 Liu Bei sent Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, Wu Lan and others to camp at Xiabian, and Cao Cao sent Cao Hong against them, with Cao Xiu as cavalry commandant and Cao Hong as commander of operations. Cao Cao told Cao Xiu that though nominally an adviser he was in fact the commander, and Cao Hong, hearing the order, also left military matters to Cao Xiu. In the spring of 218 Liu Bei sent Zhang Fei to camp at Gu Mountain in order to cut the Cao army&#39;s rear, and the Cao officers hesitated in debate. Cao Xiu said that if Zhang Fei really meant to cut off the rear he would move secretly and set an ambush, so this was only a show, and that they should break Wu Lan quickly before the others gathered, since once Wu Lan fell Zhang Fei would withdraw of himself. Cao Hong agreed and with Zhang Ji heavily defeated Wu Lan at Xiabian, killing his officers Ren Kui, Lei Tong and others. Wu Lan was killed by the Yinping Di man Qiang Duan, and his head was sent to Chang&#39;an.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## In the novel&#xA;&#xA;The article adds that in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Lei Tong is a general who came over from Liu Zhang. He fought bravely beside Zhang Fei against the Wei general Zhang He in the Hanzhong campaign but lacked strategy and was killed in Zhang He&#39;s ambush. This is the novel&#39;s story and differs from the battle of Xiabian recorded in the histories.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Basic facts&#xA;&#xA;- Death: 218[^wikidata][^zhwiki]&#xA;- State or dynasty: Eastern Han[^wikidata]&#xA;- Derived figure: [[person_cn_q124342224|Lei Tong]] (character in Romance of the Three Kingdoms)</body>
