# Ong Khan

Ong Khan, also known as Tooril, ruled the Kerait in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and was first an ally and later an adversary of Temujin.

**Ong Khan**, also known as Tooril, ruled the Kerait on the Mongolian Plateau in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. He was first an ally of Temujin and later fought against him.[^zhwiki]

## Political career

Ong Khan allied with Temujin in campaigns against other peoples of the Mongolian Plateau. In 1196, he assisted the Jin army in defeating the Tatars and received a title from the Jin court. After losing power, he later regained it with Temujin's help.[^zhwiki]

In 1203, Ong Khan was defeated and killed during his conflict with Temujin; the Kerait were subsequently incorporated into the Mongol polity.[^zhwiki]
