Wikidata records him as born in the 2nd century and dead in the twentieth year of Jian'an (215), with the occupation of military officer. The Chinese Wikipedia article is also titled Yang Ren, so the Chinese title stays as his personal name.[^wikidata][^zhwiki] ## The fight at Yangping Pass Chinese Wikipedia says that in the twentieth year of Jian'an Cao Cao attacked Zhang Lu and reached Yangping Pass in the seventh month of autumn. Zhang Lu secretly sent his brother Zhang Wei and Yang Ang to hold the pass. Cao Cao could not take it and feigned a retreat. Zhang Wei and the others took the withdrawal as a heavy blow to Cao Cao's army and relaxed their guard. Learning this, Cao Cao secretly sent his officers Xie Xiu and Gao Zuo to attack the pass at night, and they broke it. Zhang Lu fled to Bazhong, and Yang Ren was killed by Cao Cao's troops.[^zhwiki] ## In Romance of the Three Kingdoms The article adds that in the novel Yang Ren fights the Wei general Xiahou Yuan for more than thirty bouts without a result. Xiahou Yuan feigns defeat, Yang Ren chases him, and Xiahou Yuan kills him with a trailing-blade stroke. This is the novel's account and differs from the historical summary above.[^zhwiki] ## Basic facts - Name: Yang Ren[^wikidata] - Dates: 2nd century to the twentieth year of Jian'an in Eastern Han (215)[^wikidata][^zhwiki] - Realm: Eastern Han[^wikidata] - Occupation recorded on this entry: military officer[^wikidata] - Portrayal: [[person_cn_q124356184|Yang Ren]] (a character in Romance of the Three Kingdoms) /people/q11258798.html en zh en 215 215年 武将 三国 历史人物 relation_cnportray_q124356184 person_cn_q124356184 based_on person_cn_q11258798 作品中的人物形象，原型为该历史人物。 person_cn_q124356184 wikidata Portrayals person_cn_q124356184 杨任 /en/people/sanguo-q124356184-q11258798.html true person_cn_q124356184 杨任 /en/people/sanguo-q124356184-q11258798.html person based_on 衍生形象 relation_cnportray_q124356184 person_cn_q124356184 based_on person_cn_q11258798 作品中的人物形象，原型为该历史人物。 person_cn_q124356184 wikidata 衍生形象 person_cn_q124356184 杨任 /en/people/sanguo-q124356184-q11258798.html true en zh en death_date Death 215年 person_category Person category 历史人物 occupations Occupations 武将 disambiguation Disambiguation 三国 1 50 1 1 1 1
