<body>Qiao Lie is a character in the novel Water Margin. Both Wikidata and the Chinese Wikipedia article are titled Qiao Lie, and Wikidata also lists the names Qiao Daoqing, Daoqing and the Illusion Demon Lord, so the heading stays the personal name. The story is set in the Song dynasty.[^wikidata][^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Background&#xA;&#xA;The article says he was a native of Jingyuan in Shaanxi and took the religious name Daoqing, which is why he is also called Qiao Daoqing. At eight he travelled to Mount Kongtong, where an unusual master taught him illusory arts. From then on he could call wind and rain and ride the mist and clouds, and people called him the Illusion Demon Lord. Later he fell into a quarrel, beat a man so badly that he died, and was sought by the authorities. He fled home and changed his name to Quanzhen.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Under Tian Hu&#xA;&#xA;When Tian Hu rose in revolt, he drew Qiao Lie into his band. Skilled in illusions, Qiao Lie helped him seize prefectures and counties and became his chief assistant, with the title True Man of Spiritual Response Who Protects the Realm. When Song Jiang led troops against Tian Hu, Qiao Lie was subdued by Gongsun Sheng.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Afterwards&#xA;&#xA;The article says that during the campaign against Wang Qing, his old friend Sun An, who had also served Tian Hu, died of illness. Qiao Lie then went back to the mountains with Gongsun Sheng and Ma Ling to practise the Way, and took the master Luo as his teacher.[^zhwiki]&#xA;&#xA;## Basic facts&#xA;&#xA;- Description: character in Water Margin[^wikidata]&#xA;- Other names: Qiao Daoqing, Daoqing, Illusion Demon Lord[^wikidata]&#xA;- Setting recorded on this entry: the Song dynasty[^wikidata]&#xA;- Appears in: [[work_cn_q70827|Water Margin]][^zhwiki]</body>
