# Wang Mang

Wang Mang (44 BC – 23), Han dynasty official and founding Emperor of the Xin Dynasty (c.45 BC-23 AD).

## Official history

> 王莽字巨君，孝元皇后之弟子也。元后父及兄弟皆以元、成世封侯，居位輔政，家凡九侯、五大司馬，語在《元后傳》。唯莽父曼蚤死，不侯。莽羣兄弟皆將軍五侯子，乘時侈靡，以輿馬聲色佚游相高，莽獨孤貧，因折節為恭儉。受禮經，師事沛郡陳參，勤身博學，被服如儒生。事母及寡嫂，養孤兄子，行甚敕備。又外交英俊，內事諸父，曲有禮意。
