In opera she and her sister are often paired as the two You sisters of the novel. The Chinese Wikipedia describes her as fierce in temper and unwilling to be trifled with. Jia Lian later acted as matchmaker, and she agreed to marry Liu Xianglian. Liu Xianglian believed a rumor that she was unchaste and asked for the betrothal swords back. To clear herself she drew a sword and killed herself.
