# Jungfernstieg station

Jungfernstieg station, whose first platform opened in 1931 with the “KellJung” line, is a three-level tunnel station beneath the Binnenalster with U1, U2, U4 and the City S-Bahn lines S1–S3.

## Overview

The first platform was opened on 25 March 1931 with the "KellJung" line (today part of [U1](/en/concepts/ubahn-hamburg-u1.html)). The platforms for [U2](/en/concepts/ubahn-hamburg-u2.html) and [U4](/en/concepts/ubahn-hamburg-u4.html) went into operation on 3 June 1973, the S-Bahn platform of the City S-Bahn on 1 June 1975. The complex extends over three interconnected platform halls beneath the street of the same name and the Kleine Alster area.

- U-Bahn: [U1](/en/concepts/ubahn-hamburg-u1.html) on level −2, [U2](/en/concepts/ubahn-hamburg-u2.html) and [U4](/en/concepts/ubahn-hamburg-u4.html) (since 29 November 2012) on level −4; transfer to the [U3](/en/concepts/ubahn-hamburg-u3.html) via the underground link to the Rathaus station dating from 1958
- S-Bahn: Shared station of the City S-Bahn for lines S1, S2 and S3 on level −3

## Station layout

The tunnel station comprises four platforms on three levels: two tracks each for the U1, the S-Bahn (City S-Bahn) and the U2/U4. The U-Bahn facilities are operated by the [Hamburger Hochbahn](/en/organizations/hamburger-hochbahn.html), the S-Bahn platform belongs to DB. Via the Rathaus station there is an underground onward connection to the U3 ring line.
