Its area is about 11,637 km2 and its population about 0.0 million (2024), with its capital at Akita.\n\n## History\n\nRuled by the Akita and Tosawa clans in the Sengoku era and by Kubota domain (Satake clan) in the Edo period; the prefecture was established in 1871.\n\n## Geography and industry\n\nRice (Akitakomachi), forestry and sake brewing are traditional industries. The Namahage masks, Kanto Festival, Lake Tazawa, Nyuto Onsen and Yokote snow festival are famous.\n\n## Transport\n\n[[concept_japan_shinkansen_akita|Akita Shinkansen]] Komachi trains run from Morioka via the Tazawako and Ou lines to Akita.",
