Its area is about 8,480 km2 and its population about 0.0 million (2024), with its capital at Hiroshima.\n\n## History\n\nComprising the old provinces of Aki and Bingo; Hiroshima domain (Asano clan) ruled from Hiroshima Castle in the Edo period, and the prefecture formed in 1876.\n\n## Geography and industry\n\nThe Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Atomic Bomb Dome and Miyajima's Itsukushima Shrine (both World Heritage) are famous. Shipbuilding in Kure, Mazda's automobile industry and steel thrive; okonomiyaki is a famous local dish.\n\n## Transport\n\n[[concept_japan_shinkansen_sanyo|Sanyo Shinkansen]] stops at Hiroshima, Higashi-Hiroshima and Mihara; Hiroshima is about four hours from Tokyo.",
