    "body": "## Overview\n\nSaga is a first-level administrative division of [[place_japan_country|Japan]] in the Kyushu region. Its area is about 2,440 km2 and its population about 0.0 million (2024), with its capital at Saga.\n\n## History\n\nPart of old Hizen Province ruled by Saga domain (Nabeshima clan) in the Edo period; it produced Okuma Shigenobu and Eto Shinpei at the end of the shogunate, becoming an independent prefecture in 1883.\n\n## Geography and industry\n\nYoshinogari site, Yutoku Inari Shrine, and the Arita and Imari porcelain traditions are famous; Saga beef and nori seaweed are renowned. Karatsu Castle and squid sashimi at Yobuko are attractions.\n\n## Transport\n\nShin-Tosu Station of the [[concept_japan_shinkansen_kyushu|Kyushu Shinkansen]] and Takeo-Onsen Station of the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen are in the prefecture; the Nagasaki Main Line runs toward Nagasaki.",
