    "body": "## Overview\n\nYamaguchi is a first-level administrative division of [[place_japan_country|Japan]] in the Chugoku region. Its area is about 6,112 km2 and its population about 0.0 million (2024), with its capital at Yamaguchi.\n\n## History\n\nComprising the old provinces of Suo and Nagato; Choshu domain (Mori clan) drove the Meiji Restoration, producing Ito Hirobumi, Yamagata Aritomo and Katsura Kogoro. The prefecture was created in 1871.\n\n## Geography and industry\n\nKintaikyo Bridge, Akiyoshidai, Akiyoshido cave and the castle town of Hagi are famous; Shimonoseki faces Kyushu across the Kanmon Strait. Chemical industry thrives in the Shunan area.\n\n## Transport\n\n[[concept_japan_shinkansen_sanyo|Sanyo Shinkansen]] stops at Shin-Iwakuni, Tokuyama, Shin-Yamaguchi, Asa, Shin-Shimonoseki and Kokura; the western prefecture connects with Kyushu.",
