    "body": "## Overview\n\nYamanashi is a first-level administrative division of [[place_japan_country|Japan]] in the Chubu region. Its area is about 4,465 km2 and its population about 0.0 million (2024), with its capital at Kofu.\n\n## History\n\nThe home province of Takeda Shingen in the Sengoku era; Kofu domain and shogunal lands followed in the Edo period, and the prefecture was created in 1871.\n\n## Geography and industry\n\nWine, grapes and peaches flourish; the Fuji Five Lakes (Kawaguchiko, Lake Yamanaka), Shosenkyo Gorge, Takeda Shrine and Kuon-ji on Mount Minobu are the tourism centers.\n\n## Transport\n\nTokaido Shinkansen does not pass through, but the Chuo Main Line limited expresses Azusa and Kaiji link it with Shinjuku; Kawaguchiko Station is the gateway to Mt. Fuji sightseeing.",
