The story follows the elementary school student Sakura Kinomoto as she gathers the scattered Clow Cards and turns them into her own cards. ## Adaptation and reception The television anime was produced by MADHOUSE and began airing in 1998; a theatrical film and the sequel "Clear Card" arc followed. The work is known for its card-collecting premise and its many transformation outfits, and is the representative example of the magical girl genre replacing battle with collection.
