Social networking service owned by Meta, launched in 2004 and one of the largest social platforms by user numbers.

Facebook is a social networking service owned by [Meta](/en/organizations/meta.html), created on 4 February 2004 at Harvard University by Mark Zuckerberg and others; it was initially limited to students and opened to the public in 2006.

People can post updates, photos and videos, join groups and events, and interact through Messenger and the feed; the platform's revenue comes mainly from advertising. After the parent company was renamed Meta in 2021, Facebook remained one of its core products.
