Ha 29 stazioni e una lunghezza di 20,7 km. Il tratto tra Potsdamer Platz e Zoologischer Garten apparteneva alla linea principale (Stammstrecke) inaugurata nel 1902, la prima metropolitana di Berlino; il tratto Pankow–Vinetastraße fu esteso l'ultima volta il 16 settembre 2000. La linea fu aperta a tratte tra il 1902 e il 2000; il tratto più antico dell'attuale linea appartiene alla linea principale del 18 febbraio 1902 (tratto Potsdamer Platz–Zoologischer Garten: 11 marzo 1902). ## Gestore Il gestore è la [Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG)](/it/organizations/bvg.html). ## Storia La parte occidentale dell'attuale U2 appartiene alla linea principale della metropolitana di Berlino inaugurata il 15/18 febbraio 1902 (tratto Potsdamer Platz–Zoologischer Garten dall'11 marzo 1902); entro il 1929 la linea fu prolungata fino a Ruhleben. Dopo la costruzione del Muro di Berlino nel 1961 il percorso della linea fu diviso: il tratto orientale circolava come linea A della BVB, quello occidentale come linea 2 della BVG.
