约翰·霍尔（John L. Hall，1934年8月21日—）是美国物理学家，国家标准与技术研究院研究员、科罗拉多大学教授，因发展基于激光的精密光谱学、特别是光学频率梳技术而获得2005年诺贝尔物理学奖。

## 生平与职业生涯

约翰·霍尔是美国物理学家，长期任职于美国国家标准与技术研究院，并任科罗拉多大学博尔德分校联合实验室天体物理研究所（JILA）教授。他毕生致力于激光精密测量，并与特奥多尔·亨施一道发展了光学频率梳技术[^s3]。

## 主要成就

光学频率梳由锁模激光器发出的一串极短光脉冲形成，其频谱如同一把刻度均匀的梳子，可把未知光频率与已知频率比对，从而把光频率的测量精度提高到15位有效数字，即千万年只差一秒[^s3]。这项技术为超精密光钟、全球定位系统的改进、基本物理常数是否恒定的检验以及相对论验证提供了全新工具，霍尔因此与亨施共享2005年诺贝尔物理学奖的一半[^s3]。
