## 가이드의 시작

가이드는 자동차 여행을 장려하기 위해 만들어졌습니다. 지도와 타이어 교체·주유 정보, 식당과 숙박 장소 목록을 제공했습니다. 초기 판본은 무료였으며, 1920년부터 유료로 판매됐습니다. 이때 파리의 호텔과 식당을 종류별로 소개하고 유료 광고를 없앴습니다[^guide].

## 레스토랑 평가

식당 부문의 영향력이 커지면서 익명의 평가원이 식당을 방문해 평가하기 시작했습니다. 1926년 고급 식당에 별점을 처음 부여했으며, 처음에는 별 하나만 있었습니다. 1931년 0~3개의 별 등급이 마련됐고 1936년 평가 기준이 공개됐습니다[^guide].

공식 소개 페이지에 따르면 가이드는 세 대륙 30개가 넘는 지역에서 3만 곳 이상의 외식업체를 평가했으며, 전 세계 누적 판매량은 3천만 부를 넘습니다[^guide].
