汉堡火车总站于1906年12月6日启用，取代了此前多座尽头式车站。作为拥有12条站台轨道的通过式车站，它是德国北部最重要的铁路枢纽，属于 DB Station & Service 的 Preisklasse 1。2018年每日旅客约55万人次——按客流量计为欧洲第二大车站，仅次于巴黎北站。

## 车站构造

车站拥有12条站台轨道：8条长途和区域轨道沿东西向贯通，另有4条 S-Bahn 轨道（其中两条位于站厅东侧的一段隧道内）。南、北两座地铁车站共有6条地铁轨道。东南侧站前广场是汉堡中央汽车站（ZOB）。
