WhatsApp is een platformonafhankelijke berichtenapp van [Meta](/nl/organizations/meta.html), in februari 2009 opgericht door Jan Koum en Brian Acton en in 2014 overgenomen door Facebook voor ongeveer 19 miljard dollar.

Het telefoonnummer dient als account; de app biedt end-to-end versleutelde tekst-, spraak- en videocommunicatie plus groepen, kanalen en zakelijke berichten, en hoort qua maandelijkse actieve gebruikers bij de grootste berichtenapps ter wereld.
