Tem 29 estações e 20,7 km de extensão. O troço entre Potsdamer Platz e Zoologischer Garten pertencia à linha tronco inaugurada em 1902, o primeiro metro de Berlim; o troço Pankow–Vinetastraße foi o último a ser prolongado, em 16 de setembro de 2000. A linha foi aberta por vários troços entre 1902 e 2000; o troço mais antigo da linha atual pertence à linha tronco de 18 de fevereiro de 1902 (troço Potsdamer Platz–Zoologischer Garten: 11 de março de 1902). ## Operador O operador é a [Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG)](/pt/organizations/bvg.html). ## História A parte ocidental da atual U2 pertence à linha tronco do metro de Berlim inaugurada em 15/18 de fevereiro de 1902 (troço Potsdamer Platz–Zoologischer Garten a partir de 11 de março de 1902); até 1929 a linha foi prolongada até Ruhleben. Após a construção do Muro de Berlim em 1961, o traçado foi dividido: o troço oriental circulava como linha A da BVB e o troço ocidental como linha 2 da BVG.
