乔治·P·史密斯（George P. Smith，1941年3月10日—）是美国生物学家，噬菌体展示技术的发明者，2018年获诺贝尔化学奖。

## 生平与职业生涯

乔治·P·史密斯1963年获哈弗福德学院生物学学士学位，其间做过一年中学教师和实验技术员，1970年获哈佛大学细菌学与免疫学博士学位。随后他在威斯康星大学跟随奥利弗·史密斯做博士后，1975年起任密苏里大学生物科学教授，2000年获校董杰出教授称号，2015年退休为荣誉教授。1983至1984学年他在杜克大学随罗伯特·韦伯斯特做访问研究，噬菌体展示的构想正是在此期间萌芽[^s3]。

## 主要成就

史密斯1985年首次报道噬菌体展示技术：把外源肽段的基因拼接到丝状噬菌体外壳蛋白基因上，使肽段展示在噬菌体表面，从而可以用亲和筛选从海量变体中钓出结合特定靶标的蛋白。这一“以进化方式演化新蛋白”的方法后来经格雷格·温特等人发展，成为研制全人源治疗抗体的关键平台，广泛用于药物发现[^s3]。

## 获奖
