Software construction uses the output of design and provides input to testing. "Design" and "testing" here are activities, not the knowledge areas of those names. The boundaries among design, construction, and testing vary with the life-cycle processes a project uses. Some detailed design is done before construction; much design work is done during construction. During construction, software engineers unit-test and integration-test their own work.[1]
