Overview
Line U3 is the youngest and shortest line of the Nuremberg U-Bahn. It is 9.2 kilometres long and serves 14 stations. The line runs in a horseshoe-shaped alignment from Nordwestring via the city centre to Großreuth bei Schweinau. It was opened on 14 June 2008 as the first fully automatic, driverless U-Bahn in Germany. Between Rathenauplatz and Rothenburger Straße, the U3 shares the tracks of the U2. The line has been extended several times: in 2011 and 2017 at the northern end (as far as Nordwestring) and on 15 October 2020 on the southern side to Großreuth bei Schweinau; further extensions towards Kleinreuth and Gebersdorf are under construction.
