Diguan is a character in the novel Dream of the Red Chamber. Wikidata names her Diguan. The cited article says the name is also written Yaoguan. Both forms appear, so the title stays Diguan. This entry records her as an actress, and the story is set in the dynasty of the novel.[1][2]
The troupe
She is one of the twelve girls the Jia house bought to sing. The article names the other eleven as Wenguan, Baoguan, Yuguan, Lingguan, Ouguan, Ruiguan, Qieguan, Fangguan, Kuiguan, Douguan, and Aiguan. Diguan played the young female. On stage she and Ouguan, who played the young male, often acted husband and wife. They were unusually close, and they carried the tenderness of the songs and the staging into daily life. She died young not long after, and Ouguan wept as if she would not survive it.[2]
