杜如晦，字克明，京兆杜陵人。祖果，有名周、隋間。如晦少英爽，喜書，以風流自命，內負大節，臨機輒斷。隋大業中，預吏部選，侍郎高孝基異之，曰：「君當爲棟樑用，願保令德。」因補滏陽尉，棄官去。
