Character in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Gong Zhi is a fictional character in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Wikidata's Chinese label is 鞏志, written 巩志 in simplified characters, and the Chinese Wikipedia article is also under 鞏志, so the title is unchanged. Wikidata records his occupation as official and his position as governor, with Wuling of the novel as both his workplace and his residence, and the setting as the novel's country of Han.[1][2]

In the novel

Chinese Wikipedia says that he served as a staff officer under Jin Xuan, governor of Wuling. When Liu Bei sent Zhang Fei to attack Wuling, Gong Zhi urged Jin Xuan to surrender to Liu Bei, and Jin Xuan refused. After Jin Xuan lost to Zhang Fei, Gong Zhi shot him dead with one arrow and went over to Liu Bei with the people, and Liu Bei then appointed him governor of Wuling. The article cites chapter 53 of the novel.[2]

Other works

The article adds that in the manga Huofeng Liaoyuan he does not appear in person. Liu Feng only mentions that, when Liu Bei attacked the four commanderies south of the Jing, Gong Zhi killed Jin Xuan, who had made a false surrender to Liu Bei in collusion with Han Xuan, and that he was Zhuge Liang's inside agent.[2]
