Kuiguan is a character in the novel Dream of the Red Chamber. Wikidata names her Kuiguan. The cited article says her surname is Wei and that Shi Xiangyun later renamed her Wei Daying. Both names appear, so the title stays Kuiguan. This entry records her as an actress and a maid, and the story is set in the dynasty of the novel.[1][2]
The troupe, and the new name
She is one of the twelve girls the Jia house bought to sing. The article names the other eleven as Wenguan, Baoguan, Yuguan, Lingguan, Diguan, Ouguan, Ruiguan, Qieguan, Fangguan, Douguan, and Aiguan. Her specialty was the painted-face role. After the troupe was disbanded she was given to Shi Xiangyun as a maid. Shi Xiangyun renamed her Wei Daying, taking the sense of the phrase that only a great hero keeps an original color. The article says nothing further follows.[2]
