Liu An is a fictional character in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Wikidata's Chinese label is 劉安, written 刘安 in simplified characters, and the Chinese Wikipedia article is titled 劉安 with the parenthetical (三國演義), which only distinguishes it from others of the same name, so the heading stays as it is. Wikidata describes him as a hunter and gives the dynasty of the setting as Han.[1][2]
In the novel
According to Chinese Wikipedia's summary, after Lü Bu defeated Liu Bei, Liu Bei fled toward Cao Cao and lodged at the home of the hunter Liu An on the way. Liu An knew that the governor of Yu province had come and wanted to find wild game for the meal, but could not find any at short notice, so he killed his own wife and fed her to Liu Bei. Liu Bei asked what the meat was and Liu An said it was wolf. The next morning Liu Bei saw in the kitchen a slain woman with the flesh cut from her arms and asked Liu An in shock, and Liu An told him the truth. Liu Bei was grieved and wept. Liu An said he had wanted to follow his lord but did not dare go far because his old mother was at home. Later Liu Bei met Cao Cao and told him what happened, and Cao Cao sent Sun Qian to give Liu An a hundred taels of gold.[2]
