Misty is a fictional character of the Japanese Pokémon franchise. Her Japanese name is Kasumi, and her Chinese name is Xiaoxia (小霞). Wikidata and the Chinese Wikipedia article on 小霞 both describe this character, not a figure of Dream of the Red Chamber, and 小霞 is simply her usual Chinese rendering, so the title stays as it was.[1][2]
Overview
Chinese Wikipedia says Misty is a fictional character of the Pokémon anime and the female lead of its original series. Her dream is to become the greatest water-type Pokémon trainer in the world, so her Pokémon are mostly water types, among them Staryu, Psyduck and Corsola. The article notes that in Western countries her name was changed to Misty Williams. Wikidata records her as a Pokémon trainer and a gym leader, names Satoshi Tajiri as her creator, and lists several games in which she appears, including Pokémon Red and Green, Gold and Silver, FireRed and LeafGreen, HeartGold and SoulSilver, and Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. Its voice actor field lists Ayane Sakura and Rachael Lillis.[1][2]
In the anime
The article describes her as the first female lead of the Pokémon anime, lively and somewhat tsundere, who calls herself a world-class beauty and is the youngest of the four beautiful sisters of Cerulean City. The three older sisters are Daisy, Violet and Lily. She has some feeling for Ash, but quarrels with him constantly on the road. She is sharp-tongued and soft-hearted. She likes water-type Pokémon and dislikes bug types, and she regards Gyarados as a natural enemy because as a child she once put her head into a Gyarados's mouth and nearly got swallowed. She is gentle with Togepi like a mother and very close to Pikachu.[2]
Journey and gym
According to the article, she first appears fishing by a stream in Viridian Forest, when her bicycle is borrowed by Ash, who is anxious about Pikachu's injury, and then electrified to ruin by Pikachu, so she travels with Ash. At the Cerulean Gym she admits she is the youngest of the four sisters and takes Ash's gym battle in place of her sisters, who did not want to fight, until Team Rocket interrupts. After the Silver Conference she is told that her sisters have gone travelling and want her to take over the gym, so she parts from Ash and Brock there. She is later invited to the Hoenn region because of Togepi, and in Sun and Moon she returns as a guest instructor, meets Ash again, and battles him at her gym.[2]
Her Pokémon
The Pokémon listed in the article include Goldeen, Staryu, Starmie and Horsea, her first ones. Psyduck first appears in episode 27 and was caught by accident. It cannot swim and unleashes psychic powers when its head aches. Togepi is the only non-water type she owns, and in the anime it evolves and leaves her. A Poliwag and its evolutions are also listed. The article adds that she later catches a Gyarados at a broadcasting station.[2]
