Murong Lie is a fictional general in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Both Wikidata and the Chinese Wikipedia article are titled 慕容烈, so the heading stays as it is. Wikidata's description is that he is a subordinate general of Cao Cao, the dynasty of the work's setting is given as Han, and his death is recorded in 219. Chinese Wikipedia instead says he is a subordinate of Wen Pin; the two sources do not state his allegiance in quite the same way, and this entry reports both without reconciling them.[1][2]
In the novel
According to Chinese Wikipedia's summary, in the battle of Mount Dingjun, after Huang Zhong killed Xiahou Yuan, Cao Cao raised an army to attack him. Huang Zhong wanted to raid Cao Cao's grain stores but fell for a Cao trap and was surrounded, and Zhao Yun came to rescue him with three thousand men. Zhao Yun levelled his spear and rode straight forward, and the Cao general Murong Lie blocked the road at the head of the column, spurring his horse and wielding his sword to fight Zhao Yun, who killed him with one thrust of the spear. The Cao troops fled, Cao Cao's army was routed, and Zhao Yun rescued Huang Zhong. The article's source is chapter 71 of the novel, in which Huang Zhong wins by waiting at ease while the enemy tires at Mount Zhandui and Zhao Yun wins with few against many on the Han River.[2]
