裴秀，字季彥，河東聞喜人也。祖茂，漢尚書令。父潛，魏尚書令。秀少好學，有風操，八歲能屬文。叔父徽有盛名，賓客甚眾。秀年十餘歲，有詣徽者，出則過秀。然秀母賤，嫡母宣氏不之禮，嘗使進饌於客，見者皆為之起。秀母曰：「微賤如此，當應為小兒故也。」宣氏知之，後遂止。時人為之語曰：「後進領袖有裴秀。
