Princess Longji is a character in Investiture of the Gods. Wikidata gives her Chinese name as 龍吉公主 and an English alias, Longji Princess, and the Chinese Wikipedia character list uses the same name. This is the form of address used in the book and no other name is recorded, so the title stays as it was.[1][2]
Origin and banishment
The Chinese Wikipedia character list says she is a daughter of the Hao Heaven Lord and the Golden Mother of the Jade Pool. At the Peach Banquet in one year she was serving wine, broke the rules and let her thoughts turn to the mortal world, and for that she was banished to the Qingluan Douque on Phoenix Mountain. Wikidata gives that building as her residence and describes her as a goddess.[1][2]
Helping the Zhou camp
In the list's account, when Luo Xuan set fire to Xiqi with his Ten-Thousand-Mile Smoke-Cloud treasure, Princess Longji came to help. She released water with her Mist and Dew Net to take in all the smoke, took Luo Xuan's Five-Dragon Wheel with her Four Seas Bottle, and cut down his mount with her Twin-Dragon Sword, so that Luo Xuan fled. In the entry on Liu Huan the list adds that Liu Huan was killed by her Twin-Dragon Sword. Facing the garrison commander Hong Jin at Sanshan Pass, she captured him with treasures such as the Dragon-Binding Rope. The Old Man under the Moon said the two were fated to marry. She thought it an ill-fated match, but she married Hong Jin anyway. After that husband and wife fought side by side. She wounded Kong Xuan with the Phoenix Sword, and she broke Hu Lei's substitute trick with the Heaven-and-Earth Needle so that his head could fall. The list notes that she and Deng Chanyu were the only two women commanders in the Zhou camp.[2]
The end in the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation
The list says that in the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation she wounded several immortals with her White Light Sword but was struck on the crown by Jinling Shengmu's Four Images Pagoda, fell from her horse, was killed by the crowd of immortals, and was finally made the Red Phoenix Star. Wikidata likewise gives her manner of death as death in battle and her spouse as Hong Jin, but it records Tongguan as her place of death, which does not agree with the formation named in the list. The sources do not reconcile the two, so both are stated here.[1][2]
