Official history
司馬光，字君實，陝州夏縣人也。父池，天章閣待制。光生七歳，凜然如成人，聞講《左氏春秋》，愛之，退爲家人講，即了其大指。自是手不釋書，至不知饑渴寒暑。群兒戲于庭，一兒登甕，足跌沒水中，眾皆棄去，光持石擊甕破之，水迸，兒得活。其後京、洛間畫以爲圖。仁宗寶元初，中進士甲科。
