Sima Lang, courtesy name Boda, was an official in the late Eastern Han dynasty, the eldest son of Sima Fang, and an elder brother of Sima Yi.[3]

Career

As a child, Sima Lang was praised for his conduct and learning. During the wars that followed the rise of Dong Zhuo, he returned to his home in Wen and urged local elders to leave the area. During a later famine, he cared for his clan and instructed his younger brothers.[3]

Cao Cao summoned Sima Lang to serve in his administration. He later held county offices, served as a record keeper to the chancellor, and became Inspector of Yan Province. He proposed that provinces and commanderies maintain troops and that the well-field system be restored; these proposals were not adopted. His administration in Yan was praised for its leniency.[3]

Death

During the campaign against Wu in 217, an epidemic spread among the troops. Sima Lang visited the sick and arranged medicine, contracted the disease, and died.[3]

Later portrayals

A fictional character with the same name appears in Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Sima Lang (fictional character).
