historical figure

Wei Zi was a figure of the late Eastern Han. Chinese Wikipedia gives his courtesy name as Zixu, says he came from Xiangyi in Chenliu, and notes that he was recommended as filial and incorrupt. Wikidata gives the Chinese label 卫兹 (traditional form 衛茲) and the English label Wei Zi, and records his death in the first year of Chuping (190). The title therefore stays as his personal name.[2][1]

Backing Cao Cao

In the sixth year of Zhongping (189) he used his family wealth to support Cao Cao's rising. He helped Cao Cao gather more than five thousand men, which gave him his first real fighting force and let him raise troops at Jiwu.[2]

Against Dong Zhuo

He then followed Zhang Miao and Cao Cao in the campaign against Dong Zhuo and was killed in the fighting at Xingyang. Chinese Wikipedia also points out that Romance of the Three Kingdoms wrongly writes his name as Wei Hong.[2]

Family

The same article names his son as Wei Zhen, an official of the late Han and Cao Wei who rose to minister over the masses; his grandsons as Wei Lie, Wei Jing and Wei Kai; and his great-grandson Wei Quan, who was a secretary of the masters of writing under Emperor Hui of Jin.[2]
