Life

Zengzi, personal name Zeng Shen and courtesy name Ziyu, was a native of the state of Lu and a disciple of Confucius. Sources disagree on his dates: Wikidata gives 503–434 BC, while the Chinese Wikipedia article gives 505–432 BC. This entry therefore does not present exact dates as settled facts. [1] [2]

Thought and legacy

Zengzi is associated with the saying “I examine myself three times daily.” Later Confucian tradition honored him as Zongsheng (“宗圣”). The Great Learning is also traditionally associated with him. [2]
