Overview
The ZOB Hamburg lies in the district of St. Georg on the Adenauerallee immediately south-east of the Hauptbahnhof. The newly built facility, following the post-war buildings of 1950/1951, was opened on 24 May 2003; its widely visible, at night illuminated roof of a crescent-shaped ring girder spans 3,400 m² and received the "Outstanding Structure Award" of the IABSE in 2006. The operator is the Zentral-Omnibus-Bahnhof "ZOB" Hamburg GmbH, in which the Hamburger Hochbahn holds the majority. In 2013 there were 38,830 departures with an estimated three million passengers.
Services
- Long-distance buses: Central stopping point of domestic and cross-border long-distance bus traffic, in particular of FlixBus; the most frequent connection in 2014 was the route to Berlin with over 30 trips daily
- Public transport links: Direct access to the mezzanine level of the U-Bahn station Hauptbahnhof Süd (U1/U3); the Hauptbahnhof with long-distance and regional services as well as S-Bahn is two to three minutes' walk away; plus MetroBus lines 5 and 19, express buses and night buses
Station layout
The facility was built as Germany's first bus station in harbour-like (quay-style) layout, driven in a clockwise direction; the bus bays lie beneath the characteristic translucent roof.
