Google Search is Google's core web search service, launched on 4 September 1998 along with the company; its technology grew out of the BackRub project that Larry Page and Sergey Brin built at Stanford University.
Starting from PageRank link analysis, it now covers image, video, news, maps and shopping search and adds generative features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode. Search advertising has long been Google's main source of revenue.
