ICE line 28 connects Hamburg-Altona via Hamburg Hbf, Wittenberge and Berlin-Spandau with Berlin and continues from there via Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Leipzig, Erfurt, Bamberg, Erlangen and Nuremberg to Munich. Unlike line 18, it runs via Leipzig instead of Halle. Individual trains begin or end in Kiel. Trains of the ICE 4 and ICE 1 series are used.
Line 28 runs from Hamburg-Altona via Berlin and Leipzig – unlike the otherwise similar line 18, which runs via Halle – to Munich. One train pair begins and ends in Kiel. In Coburg, because of the roughly twelve minutes longer journey time, only individual trains are served; between Nuremberg and Munich all trains run via Ingolstadt, with only one train stopping there southbound.
