Overview
A first station existed at today's site from 1848/1849; the station's history goes back to the provisional Marsfeld station of 1839. The terminus is Deutsche Bahn's third-busiest long-distance station after Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main, with around 400,000 travellers and visitors daily. Today's main hall area (tracks 11–26) dates from 1960; since 2019 the station building and station have been rebuilt as part of the Zweite Stammstrecke (second trunk line) project and station optimisation.
