Overview
The U-Bahn line U6 runs in a north–south direction from Alt-Tegel in Tegel via Wedding, Friedrichstraße and the city centre to Tempelhof and Alt-Mariendorf. It has 29 stations and a length of 19.9 km. The line was opened on 30 January 1923 as the Nord-Süd-Bahn (then line C or CI) and was last extended to Alt-Mariendorf on 28 February 1966. During the division of Berlin, several stations in the East Berlin section were passed through without stopping as "ghost stations"; on 4 December 2020 the Unter den Linden station was opened, replacing the Französische Straße station closed in 2020.

History
The Nord-Süd-Bahn built by the city of Berlin went into operation on 30 January 1923 between Hallesches Tor and Stettiner Bahnhof (today Naturkundemuseum) – the first Großprofil line in the network. In the 1950s and 1960s the line was extended at both ends: on 3 May 1956 to Kurt-Schumacher-Platz, on 31 May 1958 to Alt-Tegel and on 28 February 1966 to Alt-Mariendorf. During the division of Berlin, the line passed through five closed "ghost stations" in the eastern sector, at which no stops were made.
