The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) are the municipal transport company of the state of Berlin and operate the city's U-Bahn, tram, omnibuses and ferries.
The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) are the most important municipal transport company of the city of Berlin. They emerged as Berliner Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft from the merger of the Allgemeine Berliner Omnibus AG, the Gesellschaft für Elektrische Hoch- und Untergrundbahnen (operator of the U-Bahn) and the Berliner Straßenbahn-Betriebs-GmbH; the company was founded in December 1928 and began operations on 1 January 1929. Since 1994, the company has been a public-law institution and is 100 % owned by the state of Berlin. The S-Bahn, which is operated by S-Bahn Berlin GmbH, is not part of the BVG.
