Overview
The station was opened on 26 May 2000 and lies on the north-eastern edge of the airport grounds on the Cologne–Duisburg line upgraded for 200 km/h. Alongside Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof it is the city's second long-distance station and also takes on the local transport function for the adjacent Ratingen. The driverless SkyTrain connects the station with the terminals (stops: station, car park P4, terminals A/B and C). Around 40 long-distance trains called here daily (as of 2014).
Services
- Long-distance rail: ICE 10, ICE 41 and ICE 43 call here; plus IC trains and individual Thalys connections to/from Paris
- S-Bahn: Line S1 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr on the S-Bahn platform
- Regional rail: RE 1 (NRW-Express), RE 5 (Rhein-Express) and RE 19 (Rhein-IJssel-Express) stop at the long-distance platforms
Station layout
The station has separate platforms for long-distance and regional traffic on the one hand and the S-Bahn on the other; the tracks extend into the underpass beneath the airport runways. The station building complex was built from 2000 together with the SkyTrain; the former stop Kalkum north of the airport was discontinued with the opening.
